Sports Day
Downside & Hatchford Sports Day started in the 19th Century, as a way of bringing all the Village Community together for some fun and games, it originally took place on Whit Sunday, But in 1910, as a mark of respect to King Edward VII, who died shortly before Whit Sunday (6th May 1910). The Event was moved to August Bank Holiday Monday, and has remained there ever Since. The Event has Continued annually apart from a few years where there has been no committee to run it. You don't have to be a resident of Downside or Cobham to enjoy the day, It provides a day of free races from tots to OAP's, and is sponsored by many local businesses to make a free day of sport for all.
